Why use a designer?

A garden designer will save you time and money

Every garden is different, with its own individual characteristics and a designer needs to look at it as a whole, how it functions and how it will be used.  What is the soil type, where and when does the sun shine, and does the shape need redefining? Just a handful of the things a designer will take into account.

But choose your designer well. Beware of “free” designers – either they are not very good or the fees will be hidden in the construction costs. Apart from making sure you like the work they have done and that you like them, your designer should be as passionate about your garden as you are and with a real vision for how it could look.

Remember also that ideas give birth to ideas, and a good designer will build on your own ideas and then develop them into something truly innovative. You should be able to imagine possibilities you never dreamed of: a beautifully lit al fresco dining space in that overgrown corner of the garden; a sleeping platform in the tree that is the old man of the garden or wooden monoliths peering out of the flower beds to catch the eye and give definition.

Employing a designer means no costly mistakes. You will get to see what your own slice of heaven will actually look like in stunning 3D, see it in daylight and at night, and be sure that every plant is in the right place for it.

You probably wouldn’t expect to buy a kitchen without seeing where everything would go, knowing that all the elements you want to include would fit or being sure that you liked the finished look. So it is with a garden – a small investment in the overall scheme of things will deliver you a source of guilt-free pleasure, whatever the hour, whatever the season, for years to come. Like a lifetime supply of chocolate, only without the calories.

To create your perfect garden our design charges are £60 per hour plus VAT (£72 per hour inc VAT), and (depending on the size and complexity) it would take between one and three days but we will give you a quote once we have seen your space. Garden building design is charged at the same rate.
